France - Carcassone To The Pyrenees 2026

2 week guided tour: Sept 23rd - Oct 6th

It will consist of an itinerary that will give you, the visitor, visits and tours of famous chateaus, vineyards, ancient caves, beautiful mountain scenery. Chateau De Peyrepetuse, Carcassone, and Abbaye De Fontifroide is to name but a few of the magnificent places that we shall explore.

Carcassone…. a world famous castllated city in the SW of France will be our focal point for the beginning of this tour. From a lovely hotel we shall venture into the city for a guided tour and explore its history and food.

From Carcassone we shall drive down into the area surrounding Corbieres. Another beautiful hotel awaits us, as do the hills and mountains that await us. Here we will enjoy a couple of wine tastings in local vineyards… enjoy wine and grapes that are full of the sunshine for which this area is so famous.

Its also famous for its Cathar and Albigensian Crusade history. We will take the time to visit a number of the regions amazing ruined fortresses, often the last holdouts against the crusades that were waged against these doughty people. Locations such as the Chateau De Peyrepertuse, Chateau De Querebus and of course Mont Segur will feature and Chateau De Puivert may be an additional field trip.

Further to our South and West are the Pyrenees. A majestic mountain chain that divides France and Spain, it will be the focal point for the last part of our tour. We’ll enjoy a little walking ( not hiking), good food and more splendid wines….. but you know us by now !…. we have to visit and learn about the caves in the Ariège region. Archaeology is the attraction and ancient cave paintings are the draw ( forgive the pun). Caves are found in abundance in this area and we shall explore a couple of cave systems whilst in this lovely area.

This tour is for small groups (4-12), accompanied by 1or 2 guides (for groups of more than 6), travelling in comfortable minibuses (1 or 2 depending on group size), which enable us to get into many places that big buses just can’t. They also provide us with opportunities to ‘dash’ down a country lane to explore something new and unique.… An adventure!

Included: All necessary transportation and admissions whilst you are with me. 13 nights hotel accommodation. All breakfasts, 3 lunches (additional picnics or pub lunches where we think it could enhance the trip) and 4 dinners. A tour deposit is required to reserve a place on this tour.
