8 Day Salzburg Tour And Staycation

May 20th - May 27th

Another of our ‘staycation’ tours. We will guide you through the great city of Salzburg.

Day 1 - Arrive at our tour hotel and enjoy a meeting with your group and guide. A brief summary of the tour will result in an enjoyable dinner together and a relaxed orientation walk.

Day 2- After breakfast we will step onto the streets of this iconic city, and enjoy a guided tour through the heart of the town. Highpoints and places to visit later will be pointed out to you as we make our way up to Hohensalzburg Fortress, perched high above the city. After lunch. you may visit the fortress museums or take a scenic walk along the cliffs that overlook the city.

Day 3 - Today we’ll stroll along the charming Getreidegasse, a little known but important street full of wrought iron signs. We marvel at the yellow house where Mozart was born and explore his birthplace museum. On the other side of the river is the Mozart family residence as well as the Linzer Gasse and the Mozart family grave. You’ll also get a chance to visit the famous Cafe Tomaselli to enjoy a coffee. Being free for dinner tonight you should head out onto the Steingasse, a medieval street festooned with rustic inns.

Day 4 - Salzburg is one of the most fascinating baroque cities In Europe but one of the most important structures is the Salzburg Cathedral. Its history goes back to 774 and is connected to the patron saint of the city St Rupert.Inside we will marvel at the rococo interior and see the font in which Joseph Mohr (Silent Night) was christened, Mozarts organ and the lavish archbishops residence. Today it is a fine museum housing finely conserved state rooms.

Day 5 - This morning we shall visit the beautiful Mirabell Palace and Gardens. Here we’ll about the history of a Bishop, a mistrees and her fifteen children !…. The palace is another baroque creation and its grounds are fascinatingly baroque as well. It boasts one of the oldest open air ‘hedge theatres’ as well as a quirky ‘Dwarf Garden’. This area contains statues of courtiers who were all dwarfs… they were real people. From here we will walk over to the old town to enjoy lunch. Your afternoon cn be used to take a fine hike along Fortress Hill, take the elevator inside the mountain up to Monchsberg Hill r visit the Astadtalm restaurant for splendid views and cake !

Day 6 - Today we venture out of town to visit Hellbrunn Palace and its ‘trick’ fountains. From here we scale the Untersberg….do you know the film, The Sound Of Music ? In only ten minutes by cable car, we shall reach a plateau that is said to have magical powers. It certainly has magical views. From here on a clear day we can look into Germany.

Day 7 - After breakfast we shall pay a visit to a local market…. then we shall follow the river. The Salzback riverbank offers some great photo opportunities and we can visit a ‘real’ beer garden in the Mulln neighbourhood. This evening we will enjoy dinner together in one of Salzburg great restaurants. Auf Wiederehen, Salzburg !

Day 8 - After breakfast your guide will help with advice on your transportation needs.

This tour is for small groups (4-14), accompanied by 1 or 2 guides (for groups of more than 6)….. An adventure!

Included: All necessary transportation and admissions whilst you are with us. 7 nights hotel accommodation. All breakfasts, 2 lunches (additional picnics or pub lunches where we think it could enhance the trip) and 3 dinners. Tour guide tipping is discretionary. A tour deposit is required to reserve a place on this tour.
